A Laurel woman is featured in the January issue of Woman’s Day magazine, sharing the story of how she lost 170 pounds.
Alicia Franklin-Edwards, 43, started at 305 pounds in her mid-20s and in 2006 whittled down to her current weight of 135 pounds.
Franklin-Edwards, now a weight-loss and wellness coach, said she was excited to get to share her story with people through the magazine.
“I want to encourage others,” she said. “Real-life people are doing this, local people that you can meet and see and touch.”
Beginning with what she calls a “divine revelation,” Franklin-Edwards said she realized that if she did not make changes, she would end up suffering from high cholesterol and diabetes like most of her family. She said she didn’t diet, but instead made lifestyle changes and researched nutrition and fitness.
